My Goals for the Future
Although I have spent many years teaching science, I am still looking for ways to improve my teaching .It’s my wish that to create awareness about environmental issues in my students which I try to do through my teaching, not just in my schools but also in my region. Max Warburg Reflection
Max Warburg courage foundation visit was encouraging and knowledgeable . The visit was important to me as I has given me a new vision of celebrating courage. If we observe we have many stories like Max around us and it’s important to impart those stories among common people or fellows .
Max Warburg courage foundation visit was encouraging and knowledgeable . The visit was important to me as I has given me a new vision of celebrating courage. If we observe we have many stories like Max around us and it’s important to impart those stories among common people or fellows .
It
was also encouraging to know that how Max‘s friends after so many years joined
hands and are working together for the betterment of the community. I have also
learned that how a small step can be taken to disseminate positivity among
people.
I
can also motivate my students to write their courage stories not only by
writing essays but through dialogue writing .students can also share their
stories through a panel discussion in which one student can act as an anchor
other ones will share their experiences and some can work as journalists. This
practice can enhance social awareness in them. This type of health or social
issues should be taught beside academic content because these topics are related
to our daily life (nature0 and one cannot ignore it. It is very important that
our teaching should relate to real life whether its an academic content or
social content.
Overall,
Max’s story was very inspiring and gave us a new vision.
Washington D.C. Reflection
A trip to Washington DC was a surprising tour for me in many
ways. The historical places, food and recognition being a Pakistani at state
department was marvelous.
In this short tour of three days we learned about the
restoration of historical places which highlights the beauty of the US capital.
On day one, there was a monument tour which gave us the overview of the city.
We were able to observe the Martin Luther king monument, Einstein memorial,
Lincoln memorial.
It was a great
learning experience for all of us.
On day two we met Brent Beemer at state department, there was
a good discussion about our experiences in US and the implementation of MAP in
Pakistan. Through this discussion I realized the importance of such cultural
exchange program. Next day we went to Russell &
Cannon Congressional Office Buildings and visited the Capitol. Through this
visit I got to know that restoring such historical events are easy to
demonstrate to the new generation as well as the tourists instead of telling
them about it through history books.
Last but not the least the food in “Kabob Palace” reminded
us the taste of our homeland.
PELP REFLECTION:
Before joining this PELP group I took it as a teacher training program but it was not only a training .This tour gave me a new way of taking my profession on another level.
I am quite sincere with my teaching profession but I have not actually participated into something which is called as action based teaching or something which can contribute the learning to a community level.
During this course I learned several methods of teaching kids like
Varieties of teaching techniques.
Introduction of environmental ethics.
Learning through fun activities.
Making students sharing their success stories (The Max Warburg Courage Curriculum).
A lot of learning also took place outside our classroom by observing US culture .
My MAP is about environment education and I observe the practice of common people here.
The most important thing is that I learned to “think aloud “ during these classes which I was not used to be and after Christie Sweeney ’s class I got the confidence that I can also conduct teachers training which would be a new step for me .
Overall, it was a great learning experience and I am eager to implement my action plan (waste management ) in school. Due to module sessions and MAP queens’ help the MAP was much easier task for me rather a tough and impossible to implement one.
I am thankful o all the teachers who helped us in broadening our vision and a special thanks to Blakeman Allen who was there all the time to help us.
Mid-MAP Report
Stage 1 …......The school where MAP would be implemented is SOS Hermann Gmeiner school .Its a big school for the welfare of orphan children. So far negotiations has been done with the head mistress of the school .Students are quite active and she suggested that students from 8th grade should be chosen for the project as 9th and 10th grade students would be busy for the preparation of their final board exams. The head mistress also insisted that the teachers should be included in the workshop (earlier I wanted to conduct workshop with students only) .

So with mutual discussion its decided that the workshop along with an event on poster competition on recycling would be held in January 2014.
