It has always been my goal to work for uplifting education in my own capacity and making it more accessible for ALL. Inclusive Education gave a new direction to my aim. I want to motivate teachers for adapting it so that they develop a positive attitude towards Inclusion. I aim to develop Teacher training modules, awareness posters ,a documentary and adapted lesson plans for professional development of Inservice and preservice teachers. This will help them cater for needs of children with diverse abilities.
My Educational Institution
My educational institute is Directorate of Staff Development. It is rendering valuable and meritorious services in the field of teachers’ training since last 50 years for enhancing the quality of learning in the government schools of Punjab. DSD launched
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) framework in 2007 for twelve (12) districts in Punjab. Needs of My Educational Institution
It has been observed that main causes of ineffective teacher trainings are lack of follow up and onsite support. My organization needs to develop more effective mechanisms of Monitoring field trainings and ensuring that they have of the same standards as conducted in DSD.
Map Objectives
· To provide teachers the tools and knowledge, they need to reach out to children with learning difficulties.
· To explain the teachers how to make effective use of indicators (early warning signs) to identify children with learning difficulties.
· To train teachers how to develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to cater to needs of students with different learning difficulties.
· To make them practice different teaching strategies for different learners.
· To develop a blog where teachers can share their problems and find appropriate solutions.
Pre Planning
Integrating MAP activities into Inclusive Education Training PLAN
As DSD has planned 5 days training of Lead Master Trainers ( LTEs) this summer on Inclusive Education, MAP training workshop will be made part of it. I will be having one session each day for learning Difficulties. So there will be a total of 5 Sessions. This will be helpful in two ways
1. As Master Trainers are from 33 districts of Punjab, and these will train 365 District Teacher Educators (DTEs) the MAP message will be replicated and conveyed to a much larger audience.
2. This will also save the budgetary expenses of arranging the venue and TADA of participants.
Development of Training Manual
A training manual that will describes all activities of sessions along with Handouts will be developed for Lead Master Trainers. This will facilitate them while conducting training in field.
Editing of Video and copying it in CDs
The video content that will be shown during training will be edited and copied in CDs for use by Master Trainers in field.
MAP Training Pack
Before execution of training MAP training packs will be made. They will have
· A copy of Manual
· CD with Video content
· Awareness raising poster.

WASHINGTON D.C Reflection by Hadia Aslam
I found Washington DC as a great city of monuments and memorials. It was interesting to find statues and plaques on many street corners around the city. The two places that inspired me most are Arlington National Cemetery and Korean War Veterans Memorial.
Arlington National Cemetery is America's largest burial ground with the graves of President John F. Kennedy, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, astronauts from the two space shuttle disasters, and innumerable military leaders. It is administered by the U.S. Army and more than 300,000 individuals are buried there.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and told us that when President Kennedy was assassinated, it was reported in the New York Times that he would be buried in Boston. But Jacqueline Kennedy said “He belongs to the people,” and the decision was made that he would be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. It was so inspirational that there is no discrimination between an American President and a common military soldier. BOTH DESERVE THE SAME HONOR AND PRIDE.
Another one of the most touching sights in Washington D.C., was the Korean War Veterans Memorial .it is in the honor of those who were killed, captured, wounded or remain missing in action during the Korean War. Though my camera could not capture much of it due to darkness, but it will be preserved in my heart forever.
Other unforgettable experiences were shopping at Pentagon Mall and Kabob palace, where I enjoyed a lot of Pakistani food with my friends. There was cheer and laughter all the time that truly made us forget all our worries. Thank you Washington D.C for giving us memories of lifetime.
PELP Reflection
I find myself truly short of words while reflecting upon my leanings from PLP. It was an optimal learning experience, tailored to our needs and particularly to my area of interest i.e. Professional Development. I learnt the true Essence of Professional development and its components from Christie Sweeney. Kathleen Norris provided an amazing opportunity to learn about best practices in transformative curriculum. Being a Teacher training material developer, I now have a broader vision and better understanding of curriculum, instruction design and assessment tools.
Moreover I learnt how to promote critical thinking and rigor in students from integrated service learning based curriculum session.
There was much other learning about food cultures, US history, respecting diversity, cultures of war and peace and critical pedagogy. From the Max Warburg Courage Curriculum, I learnt how to engage teachers in a better understanding of their students .It also explained how to make use of curriculum to improve teachers’ instruction while meeting other mandated requirements.
MAP was no doubt culmination of my PELP experience. It gave me wings to fly free by providing an opportunity to design my own portfolio.
At the end, I will say that at PELP I learnt
‘’BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE’’
And I will be that change. Thank you PELP for giving me an opportunity of lifelong learning.
